Artist's Description
"Twirling Feather" is an original fine art minimalist photograph by Sandra Huston.
I could not pass up capturing this feather twirling in the breeze among dozens of other feathers floating on the surface of Tacoma lakes early in September. Loons molt their feathers in the fall. And during this molt, every contour feather on their body is replaced. The loon then enters its basic plumage (sometimes called winter plumage or non-breeding plumage). No longer sporting its tell tale black and white pattern but a dull grey-ish brown until next spring.
