I photographed this Great Green Macaw in the open interactive aviary station during our visit to the Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts on a hot sultry day late in September. Obviously it was taking a nap and in no way was it going to be interrupted. With that squinty look, I got the impression it was saying “Look lady I am trying to nap here”. So my husband and I took the hint and quietly left it alone. It was still quite a treat to be able to get this up close and personal to such an impressive bird with no cage in between us.
