This is a pair of Gray Catbirds that I captured perching on top of our bird house out back of our home early in the morning. Gray Catbirds are relatives of mockingbirds and thrashers, and share that groups vocal abilities, copying the sounds of other species and stringing them together to make their own song. You can find Gray Catbirds in shrubs, small trees, forest edges and on fence rows. We have a pair each year come and nest in May as I have suet out that they seem to love and trees and fences all around my garden. There usually gone by September/October and it is known that they winter in southeastern United States, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. I truly enjoy watching them as they have a lot of personality and such a variety of musical and catlike mewing sounds. I have found the male Gray Catbird to be bolder jerking its long tail expressively while the female is much more timid and watchful. If you would like to hear the sound of a Gray Catbird click on this link:...
Welcome, I am a passionate nature photographer, pastel artist and author of 'Loons of Tacoma Lakes', a book celebrating the love of loons. I have enjoyed drawing animals and taking photographs from as long as I can remember. In 1990 I went professional with my first international website, offering fine art photography and commissioned pet portraits. It was not until 2006 after my first book was published that I truly became interested in digital photography as a true art form. With digital photography the sky is the limit and I truly enjoy sharing the wonders of nature that Maine and New England has to offer. While browsing through my art collections here at Fine Art America and Pixels.com, you will find what stirs my soul through wildlife...
