Description
"Zebra's In Black and White" is an original black and white African wildlife photograph by Sandra Huston.
This photograph of African Zebra's was captured at the Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts on a hot sultry day late in September. After uploading this image I decided to convert it to a black and white film image for the public to enjoy.
Honored to be featured in the following Fine Art America and Pixels.com groups:
* Images That Excite You on 2/7/18
* Creative Black & White Fine Art Photographs on 2/10/18
* New FAA Uploads on 2/18/18
* Monthly Themed - February Theme - Love In Black and White on 2/27/18
* 10 Plus on 4/20/19
There are three species of zebras: the plains zebra, the mountain zebra, and the Grevy’s zebra. The plains zebra and the mountain zebra belong to the sub genus Equus burchellii, but Grévy's zebra is the sole species of sub genus also known as the imperial zebra. The latter resembles an ass with longer ears, to which zebras are closely related, while the former two look more horse-like. The plains zebra (Equus quagga, formerly Equus burchelli) is the most common, and is distributed across much of southern and eastern Africa. The mountain zebra of southwest Africa tends to have a sleek coat with a white belly and narrower stripes than the plains zebra. Grévy's zebra (Equus grevyi) is the largest type, with a long, narrow head, making it appear rather mule-like. It is an inhabitant of the semi-arid grasslands of Ethiopia and northern Kenya. Grévy's zebra is the rarest species, and is classified as endangered.
It was previously believed that zebras were white animals with black stripes, since some zebras have white underbellies. Embryological evidence has shown that the animal's background color is truly black and the white stripes and bellies are additions. Wikipedia

One feels the companionship of these two -- side by side, protective of one another, guarded and watchful.
