Male African lion photographed in the African Plains exhibit at the NY Bronx Zoo warming on the rocks in the late afternoon sun in October 2018. I was quite impressed with the natural setting in this exhibit, which is home to both predator and prey species separated only by a series of hidden moats and electric fences, so that it appears like they share the same space. This is the second in a 3 part series.

The Bronx Zoo is located within the Bronx a borough of New York City. It is one of the largest zoos in the United State by area, comprising 265 acres of park lands and naturalistic habitats separated by the Bronx River. On average, the zoo has 2.15 million visitors each year. The Bronx Zoo is world-renowned for its large diverse animal collections, and its award-winning exhibitions. This zoo is part of an integrated system of four zoos and one aquarium managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in New York City.
