Description
"Portrait Of A Sleeping Leopard" is an original fine art wildlife photograph by Sandra Huston.
I captured this photograph of a sleeping leopard during our visit to the Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts on a hot sultry day late in September. The zoo was established in 1965, although the homestead at Southwick's dates back to 1803, this 200 acre zoo actually began as a dairy and vegetable farm in the early to mid 1900's. Justin Southwick, founder of the wildlife park had a passionate interest in exotic birds and fancy poultry. His passion resulted in what is now called Southwick's Zoo, a beautiful place nestled under the shade of tall oak trees situated in the tranquil countryside of the extraordinary Blackstone River Valley. Southwick's Zoo is home to hundreds of animals from around the world including lions, tigers, giraffes, rhinoceros, chimpanzees and so many more. The zoo is also home to a 35 acre walk through interactive Deer Forest, petting zoo, play park, kiddie rides, shows, woodland express train ride, skyfari sky ride, parakeet landing interactive aviary and feeding station, and that is just to name a few. With wonderful gift shops and concession stands through out the park. Southwick’s Zoo is New England’s largest zoo and a great place to visit when you are in the area.
