I was very excited to be able to capture this photograph of a pair of Northern Cardinals perched in my lilac bush in Lisbon Falls, Maine during a snowstorm. I had spotted a hawk landing in front of my sliding glass door early in the morning chasing after a morning dove and decided to get my camera out in case it would come back. The hawk did not make another appearance and the morning dove got away but a flock of cardinals did come to my back yard to feed at the feeders during a lull in the storm. After uploading this photograph I decided to add a textured digital watercolor layer that resulted in this wildlife art decor for the public to enjoy.
The Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is a North American song bird. It is also known as the redbird or common cardinal. It can be found in southern Canada, through the eastern United States from Maine to Texas and south through Mexico. It is usually seen in woodlands, back yard gardens, shrub lands, and swamps. It has a distinctive crest on the head and a mask on the face which is black in the male and gray in the female. The male is a vibrant red, while the female is a dull reddish olive. From Wikipedia

One of my favorite birds, yet they seem to be so camera shy for me. You have done a beautiful job. L/F
Sandra Huston replied:
Thank you very much Andrea, and I agree they are so very shy. The only time I can capture them is during a break in a snow storm and they are hungry!
