Description
“Fox Kits in Spring” is an original wildlife photograph by Sandra Huston.
I spotted these adorable young fox kits playing on the power line near our horse pasture while feeding my horse. I quickly ran inside and grabbed my camera and quietly hid behind an old oak tree so I could capture a few shots of them while playing in the early morning hours. These young kits were totally oblivious to me until the vixen came trotting down the trail to check on them and barked when she spotted me with my long lens peaking out behind our oak tree. It took a matter of seconds for all the kits to run and hide in there burrow and I did not see them again until late that afternoon around four when they came out again to play.

The red fox is the largest of the true foxes and one of the most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere including most of North America, Europe and Asia, plus parts of North Africa. The young remain with their parents until the fall, with some female pups staying longer. The red fox has an average lifespan of three to five years in the wild and will grow to about seven to fifteen pounds. Fox will prey mainly on rodents, birds, squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, opossums and gophers. They will also eat fruit like blackberries, apples, acorns, reptiles and insects.
The red fox is mostly recognized by its reddish coat, with its white-tipped tail, and black stockings. Although the species does have many color variations including light yellowish to deep auburn red, black, silver, and mixes of all these colors.
