I captured this juvenile Great Blue Heron fishing in a marsh along the highway to Popham Beach State Park in Phippsburg, Maine late in September. I observed two young herons along with a parent Great Blue Heron fishing in this marsh early that afternoon. In this shot the bright sun highlighted its feathers with its open wings fluttering and reflected off the rippling surface of the marsh. I had to laugh how they mimicked the parent in there every move carefully and slowly walking back and forth looking for fish and then all of a sudden this juvenile flapped its wings and danced in place. I laughed wondering if it was excited that it saw something or just saw its shadow. Unfortunately only the parent was lucky catching fish but it was not for lack of trying on the part of the young herons that's for sure.
After uploading this photograph I decided to use my artistic license and added a digital watercolor and textured layer for the public to enjoy.
