Chestnut Arabian - Original Fine Art Photography by Sandra Huston.

This gorgeous Arabian horse caught my eye last summer at a horse show and I just had to photograph him. I later decided to change the background to bring out his beautiful chestnut coat.

Fun Facts:
Did you know that the Arabian horse is thousands of years old and its silhouette is seen in the art of ancient Egypt more than 3500 years ago? The original purpose of the Arabian was as a desert warhorse. Over time these horses adapted to their desert environment, resulting in qualities that make them unique among all equine breeds. We have the nomadic peoples of the Arabian Desert, known as the Bedouin, to thank for the refined breed that exists today. The Arabian horses developed strong hooves that helped them withstand the sand and rocks of the desert. Other desert adaptations include thin skin and tails held high when in motion, both traits that help cool the body. While Arabian horses may appear delicate in appearance, they are actually quite strong, with dense bones and short backs. Their well-sprung ribs, large, flexible nostrils and unique attachment of the neck to the head all allow for tremendous lung capacity. Because of these traits the Arabian horse excels in the sport of endurance racing. Known for their intelligence, courage, loyalty and a spirited yet gentle disposition, the Arabian breed has an amazing affinity for humans and bond strongly with their owners. Adding their strong desire to please its no wonder that the Arabian horse is renowned the world over.
