"Black Swallowtail Butterfly" is an original fine art wildlife photograph by Sandra Huston.
This beauty was photographed at the Butterfly Place located in Westford, Massachusetts. In the wild its flight period is mainly early May to late September. Papilio polyxenes, the black swallowtail, American swallowtail or parsnip swallowtail, is a butterfly found throughout much of North America. It is the state butterfly of Oklahoma and New Jersey. The Eastern Black Swallowtail butterfly is a common visitor to open fields and farmlands, and frequently seen in urban landscapes. It can be seen from the Gulf of Mexico to southern Canada, from the Atlantic seaboard westward. The Adult butterfly stage is ‎6 to 14 days, the Chrysalis (pupal) stage is ‎10 to 20 days and Caterpillar (larval) stage is ‎3 to 4 weeks. Wikipedia
