This photograph is #2 of a new 3 part series of common loon photographs captured on Woodbury Pond part of a chain of ponds know as Tacoma Lakes in Litchfield, Maine.
I am truly blessed to be able to continue to capture up close and personal shots of the Loons on Tacoma Lakes in Maine as they interact among themselves each summer. It began in the summer of 2005 and is very humbling and exciting experience photographing them when they return each year to breed and raise their young. In this photograph the loon was calling a warning to its mate because of a bald eagle flying overhead.
Loon facts: Common loons are larger than the other loon species. Adults are 28 to 35 inches (70 to 90 cm) long with a wingspan of 60 inches (152 cm). Their weight ranges from 3.5 to 17.6 lbs. (1.6 to 8 kilograms). Common loons breed in forested lakes and large ponds found in Greenland, Iceland and northern North America. Once the ice begins to freeze the loons will migrate and winter along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America, Iceland and Europe.
My photograph of a common loon includes the following keywords to describe the category with which it is displayed in; common loon, (Gavia immer) loon, calling, alert, birds, waterfowl, avian, original photography, Woodbury Pond, Litchfield, Maine, Sandra Huston, fine art photograph, wildlife, wild, nature, animal, lake, reflection, wildlife decor, wall art, home decor, Pixels.com
